I NEED ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICAID COVERAGE.

 

We can guide you through the process of applying for Medicaid.  It can be done online, over the telephone, or in person.  Some doctor’s offices will also assist you in applying for benefits.

 

I DON’T HAVE A DOCTOR.  DOES THAT MATTER?

 

No that does not matter.  However, if you are early on in the pregnancy, we will assist you in finding a doctor that you are comfortable with so that you may receive proper prenatal care.  If the baby is already born and you did not receive prenatal care - that does not matter.  We will still work with you and provide you with whatever information you may need.

 

THE HOSPITAL IS GOING TO CALL CPS.  DO I HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS?

 

 Yes, you do.  Most hospital personnel are not aware, and therefore will not give you the option of contacting a private agency like ours.  With a private agency, you are able to take part in the selection of a family and are entitled to receive whatever information you may request from the adoptive family.  It further avoids CPS getting involved and removing your newborn to be placed with a state foster family.  You may even contact us from the hospital after the baby is born (but before you leave the hospital).

 

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO.  DO I HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION BEFORE THE BABY IS BORN?

 

No, you do not.  While it is best to complete all paperwork ahead of time so that you deal only with the delivery at the hospital, it is not necessary.  Paperwork may be completed at the hospital if that is when you make your decision.  Keep in mind...YOU DO NOT SIGN LEGAL DOCUMENTS UNTIL 48 HOURS AFTER THE BIRTH OF THE BABY.  

 

I WANT AN OPEN ADOPTION.  IS THAT AN OPTION?

 

There are many different meanings to “open adoption”.  At ABC Adoption Agency, our goal is to make the process as comfortable as we can make it for you.  If you decide you want to meet the adoptive family, then we will coordinate that.  Do you want to be informed of how your child is progressing?  If so, you are entitled to receive that information through photos and letters throughout the years.  ABC Adoption Agency has been in San Antonio for over 25 years.  We are constantly reuniting adoptees with their birth families.  On the other hand, you may choose to not be involved or the process may prove to be too difficult for you at first.  That’s okay too....you are not judged by the decisions that you make.  We will work with you and do our best to honor your wishes.
